I wonder what Charles Downs would think of the Chicago Association of Direct Marketing as we turn 60 this year?

Then …
Charles Downs was advertising director of Abbott Labs when, in 1955, he, Bob Enlow, and a handful of colleagues, formed the Mail Advertising Club of Chicago.  In the same year, they also created the forerunner of our venerable Basic Course. 

Now…
Now, 60 years later, with apologies to Stephen Sondheim for messing with his lyrics:  “Good times and bum times, we’ve seen them all, .And, my dear, we’re still here.”  Yes, thanks to 60 years of dedicated presidents, passionate board and committee members, and an enthusiastic and participatory membership (and fabled executive director, Natalie Holmes) though changed, we’re still here! 

For the Future…
As a component of our diamond anniversary celebration, we are compiling a history of CADM.  Please start digging through your CADM files and your memory to help us reconstruct the evolution of CADM and the programs we’ve offered--many of which, like the Basic Course, have endured.

Looking Ahead

Diamond anniversary celebration:  Annual meeting and luncheon: August 19, at Wildfire.
